Our experienced dentists in Leeds go the extra mile, making sure that every treatment plan is tailored to each patientβs exact requirements. All of our treatments are designed to help you look and feel your most confident. Our dental crown procedures are no different, restoring both the function and appearance of your teeth.
WHAT ARE DENTAL CROWNS?
A dental crown helps restore the function of a tooth that is decayed or damaged. It allows a tooth to regain its original shape and size, functioning as your natural teeth would. You could need a dental crown for a number of reasons, such as:
- A damaged or decayed tooth
- Cracked or broken tooth
- A tooth that is so discoloured that veneers and whitening are not viable
- Small, misshapen tooth
- A fragile tooth after a root canal treatment
If a filling is not strong enough to support the tooth, a crown may be recommended by your dentist.
HOW DO DENTAL CROWNS WORK?
A CROWN β
essentially acts as a protective cover. It is fitted over the existing structure of a tooth to restore its shape, size and appearance. Dental crowns can colour match your existing teeth so it is impossible to tell that youβve had treatment. Crowns are occasionally used to support dental implants – also known as an implant crown – or to help replace a missing tooth during a dental bridge treatment.
AN IMPLANT CROWN β
is where an implant replaces the roots of a missing tooth and a crown is then placed on top to create a false tooth.
A DENTAL BRIDGE β
aids the gap created by missing teeth. It is made up of two crowns, with a false tooth in between them.

THE BENEFITS OF DENTAL CROWNS
We aim to repair damaged or decayed teeth wherever possible to help our patients maintain their oral health. Avoiding damaged or decayed teeth can lead to pain, sensitivity, gum disease and even tooth loss, which a dental crown treatment can help to prevent. There are many benefits of dental crowns, such as:
- Protects a decayed tooth from further damage
- Can colour match your existing teeth
- Improves the aesthetics of your teeth
- Durable treatment option
- Can protect a tooth after a root canal treatment
THE DENTAL CROWN PROCESS
Crowns generally take two appointments to apply. The first appointment involves a mouth x-ray, preparing your tooth and taking the necessary moulds. You will also be able to choose the colour of your crown with our advice and guidance on the best match to your existing teeth. A temporary crown will then be placed. The second appointment involves the removal of the temporary crown and application of the replacement dental crown.
WHAT IS DENTAL CROWN RECOVERY LIKE?
The area around your dental crown is likely to feel sensitive for a few days after treatment. However, once the soreness has subsided, aftercare for your dental crown is simple. Caring for dental crowns is just like caring for your existing teeth, with brushing twice a day for two minutes, regular flossing, and frequent dental checkups at our practice in Leeds.
